Subject: Workman??

A note from a concerned member of the community.  You will note that I did not send out anything like this while a certain group was with us, but now they have gone it is more likely we will have call from, cold callers and bogus workman, do not entertain them in any way shape or form.

I write to inform you of a potential con that is currently under way in Saltdean/Peacehaven.
Two young men with Irish accents in an unmarked white Vauxhall Corsa van (sorry no reg. no. but it was an 03 or 53 plate) pull up and say that they are working on the neighbouring property to yours (but without revealing where that is...). They claim to be... well almost anything really, sometimes roofers, sometimes 'the leading damp course specialists in your area' (despite the vehicle) and try as hard as they can to get you to tell them where you live with a view to lettimg them in to do 'essential remedial work'. When you tell them they are mistaken, they try to call 'a mate'.... who, strangely enough, doesn't answer his phone. As they cannot offer any credentials whatsoever and cannot even give the address of the property they claim to be working on, this is obviously a scam to get inside people's houses with presumed criminal intent. Despite the clearly dodgy nature of the entire approach, elderly or vulnerable people could, however, easily fall for it.

I am not sure but I think I recognize the vehicle from the so-called Travellers' camp latterly in Saltdean Oval Park.
